Elliott's multi-stage centrifugal compressor performance estimator currently works for single compressor sections. Future releases will handle multiple sections and multiple bodies. The performance calculations are based on simple gas properties, fan law equations, and Elliott compressor nominal performance criteria.
The user navigates from field to field on a single page by using the “Tab” key. The user has a choice of entering gas property data (molecular weight (MW), specific heat ratio (k) and compressibility factor (Z)) or a specific gas composition in mole percents or mole fractions. The program can apply either metric units with pressure units of bar absolute or kg/cm2 absolute or English units with pressure in psia. Once the type of measurement units, gas data, weight flow (lb/min or kg/h), inlet pressure, inlet temperature and required discharge pressure are entered, the compressor performance program provides an estimate of compressor frame size, number of compression stages, required head, discharge temperature, operating speed and shaft power.
The centrifugal compressor performance estimator is based on the assumption that the gas analysis provided by the user is in the vapor region for the operating conditions specified. The estimator does not detect liquids or vapor-liquid mixtures. Estimator results are not valid for liquids or gas-vapor mixtures.
