Elliott Turbomachinery Co., Inc. Receives Compressor Order for World’s Largest Liquefied Natural Gas Production Facility
April 30, 2001
Elliott Turbomachinery Co., Inc., Jeannette, Pennsylvania announced that it has been chosen as the main refrigeration compressor supplier for the world’s largest single train liquefied natural gas (LNG) production installation, or Train 3, for the Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company, Ltd. (Ras Gas) in the State of Qatar. The multi-million dollar contract is a continuation of earlier expansion at Ras Gas, Trains 1 and 2, for which Elliott also supplied the main refrigeration compressor units.
Under the Train 3 contract, the equipment arrangements which Elliott will provide include one low pressure mixed refrigerant (MR) compressor and one medium pressure MR compressor in one string, and one high pressure MR compressor and one propane refrigeration compressor in a second string. Each compressor string will be driven by a General Electric (GE) Frame 7EA gas turbine. Before the units are shipped to the Middle East, both compressor strings will receive full load factory testing with a GE Frame 7EA gas turbine at Elliott’s modern testing facility at the company headquarters in Jeannette, Pennsylvania.
Ras Gas is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%). ExxonMobil claims this project involves building the “world’s largest and most cost-efficient LNG train at Ras Laffan Industrial City” which produces LNG from gas reserves in Qatar’s vast North Field.
When completed, Train 3 will have an LNG production capacity of 4.7 million tons per year (MMTPA) for supply to Petronet, India. Trains 1 and 2 combined have a total LNG production capacity of 6.6 MMTPA.
“Elliott is extremely pleased to be chosen as the main refrigeration compressor supplier for this project,” said David Assard, president and CEO of Elliott Turbomachinery Co., Inc. “This contract demonstrates our capabilities and continued commitment in the growing LNG marketplace. This order also reflects on the success of our state-of-the-art compressors we have already supplied for Trains 1 and 2 which are now operating successfully and helping to satisfy the world’s critical need for energy.”
Elliott’s commitment for the Ras Gas Train 3 compression equipment includes a fixed option for identical equipment applicable to an upcoming Train 4 expansion. Elliott Turbomachinery Co, Inc., founded over 100 years ago, is a world leader in engineering, manufacturing, installing and servicing rotating equipment for customers around the world in a broad range of applications including electric power generation, oil and gas production, refining, petrochemical processing and industrial operations.
