Elliott Introduces ‘Remote Witness’ For Steam Turbine Testing

Jeannette, PA, March 25, 2008

New program provides convenient alternative to on-site performance and compliance certification

Elliott has developed a new Remote Witness program that enables customers around the world to observe functional, real-time testing of their steam turbine equipment on-line rather than on-site.

“Many of our customers and third-party contractors are required to witness functional testing of their equipment before it is shipped and installed to ensure contractual compliance,” said Mark Babyak, Elliott’s Six Sigma Quality Manager. “Our new proprietary remote witness program eliminates the time, expense and inconvenience of travel for on-site test observation, and allows our customers to monitor the mechanical test from their own location.”

Elliott’s Remote Witness provides live video feed of equipment testing for up to four external observers at four different locations, and incorporates a chat feature for real-time conversation between the test monitors and the test operator. Playback and auto save features facilitate mechanical test and data review at the customer’s convenience.

Through Remote Witness, observers are given a choice of S.I. or U.S. standard measurement units to monitor tests on shaft vibration; process steam inlet temperature and pressure; process steam exhaust temperature and pressure; bearing temperature; and lube oil pressure and temperature. A toggle feature allows easy movement between screens.

“Our customers are located all over the world,” stated Babyak, “and arranging for on-site testing is an expensive and complex endeavor for them and for us. Elliott’s Remote Witness program provides an efficient and convenient alternative, with all the benefits of actually being here to observe in person.”
