What is your background with Elliott Group?  I found Elliott through the CETA (comprehensive education and training act) program. After completing the welding program at the Elliott training center, I was hired to weld impellers. Since then, I've welded in all areas of the shop, but most of my time was spent in the impeller cell. I've also programmed and operated welding robots.

What are you most proud of during your time at Elliott? Designing a weld positioner which is used in our shop today. With permission from the management team, I designed the positioner and built the prototype which will position up to an 11-axis robotic and/or manual weld, and then applied for a patent which was granted. We used the positioner to weld the world's largest single-body compressor, the Elliott 110M, and I was able to weld flawlessly because of the positioner.

What do you like about Elliott's culture? The Jeannette manufacturing facility is a union shop - we are members of the United Steel Workers. Over the years we've worked hard to develop a positive working relationship between the executive team and the union. This partnership sets Elliott apart from many other Pennsylvania manufacturers and I am so proud of my part in creating a positive work environment.

I also really enjoy the opportunities to experience other cultures. Elliott is owned by Ebara Corporation, a Japanese company. We have a sister manufacturing facility in Sodegaura, Japan and I was one of the first welders sent to Japan to work with our colleagues there. I came away from that experience knowing that through our jobs, we are true partners and teammates.

What advice do you have for new job applicants?  The work we do here requires highly skilled "craftsmen,"  and Elliott takes it to the highest level. The 6G xray pipe test is usually the highest level test that a manufacturer offers to applicants. At Elliott, you must pass the 6G xray pipe test test just to get in, and we will build on that. We require our employees to be professional and to continually improve their skills. It's a demanding workplace, but it's also a pretty friendly place to be.
